Today,we study about the Ten commandments of God in the bible. These are
1. You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not bow down to them worship them.
3. You shall not misuse the name of the lord your God.
4.Remember the Sabbath-day by keeping it holy .
5.Honour father and mother..........
6.You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall give false testimony against your neighbour.
10.You shall not covet your neighbour's house / wife.
when i study about that, I remembered about the kalamasutta
in the Pitaka preached by the Buddha. In also this Sutta , there are Ten kinds of commandment for His (Buddha) disciples . These are..............
1. Do not accept on ( mere) hearsay!
2. Do not accept anything by mere tradition!
3. Do not accept anything on account of mere rumours!
4. Do not accept anything just because it accords with your scriptures!
5. Do not accept anything by mere supposition!
6. Do not accept anything by mere inference!
7. Do not accept anything by merely considering the reasons!
8. Do not accept anything merely because it agreees wiht your pre-conceived notions.
9. Do not accept anything merely because it seems acceptable_!
10. Do not accept anything thinking that the ascetic is respected by us!
But when you know for yourselves- these things are immoral,these things are blame worthy, these things are censured by the wise, these things, when performed and undertaken, conduce to ruin and sorrow - then indeed do you reject them.
